Session Description This presentation will provide a comprehensive overview of Colorado’s Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) and the Healthy Workplaces Act (HWFA). FAMLI supports employees by offering wage replacement during family or medical leave. The HWFA aims to enhance employee well-being by providing paid leave for various health-related and caregiving needs, fostering a healthier work environment. This session will cover the key provisions of each law, practical compliance strategies, and how to implement these regulations effectively within your organization to support both employee needs and legal requirements.
Speakers Catherine Gallagher Catherine represents employers in a wide variety of employment matters in both state and federal court in addition to matters before state and administrative agencies. Catherine’s practice focuses on defending employers against wage and hour claims, wrongful termination, workplace discrimination, harassment, and retaliation claims in addition to successfully handling misappropriation of trade secret cases. Catherine has served as second chair in both jury trial and arbitration proceedings in addition to acting as first chair in administrative law hearings. Catherine also regularly counsels employers on matters including leaves of absence, employee discipline, wage and hour issues, hiring and terminations, internal investigations, workplace accommodations, reductions in force and several other personnel related issues. Catherine works in conjunction with employers to draft policies, employee handbooks, and other employment-related agreements to ensure compliance with California and federal law.
Kaitlin Spittell
Kaitlin Spittell centers her practice on labor, employment, and public entity defense. She represents clients on employment law matters, including discrimination and retaliation, reasonable accommodations, disciplinary actions, compensation and benefits, and various types of contracts which include employment agreements, severance agreements, and stock/employee benefit agreements. Kaitlin defends clients in state and federal courts in Colorado and during the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and Colorado Civil Rights Division (CCRD) administration processes. She counsels and supports employers to determine practical solutions to resolve matters within the workplace.
