SESSION DESCRIPTION

Leadership is a word we use in business all the time, and is typically used as a substitute for the word "Authority."  Who is in control?  Who will make the decision?  Who will implement the change?  Who is accountable for the outcome?  Certainly the "Leader's" name might be the correct answer to these questions, but Leadership and Authority are two entirely different experiences for employees.  Most of us never understand the difference until we encounter a Great Leader in our careers, and the distinction between Leadership and Authority becomes crystal clear.  Reggie Rivers played six seasons in the NFL, and he had a front-row seat to watch coaches engage with young, egotistical, and incredibly talented players.  He noticed that "Authority" could compel the players to adhere to team rules, but that was about all it could do.  "Leadership" had the power to unlock the enormous potential in the players, improve the culture, improve morale, improve performance, and dramatically change the outcomes.  Reggie will share how HR leaders can exercise “Influence” rather than “Authority” to provide coaching to managers and executives regarding effectively managing organizational talent.
