Quarterly Education Event
Stop the Talent Drain: Practical Approaches to Retain Top Talent Three practical sessions will provide approaches to help you retain your top talent. First, actions speak louder than words. You can demonstrate this in how and when you conduct surveys, but more importantly what you DO with the feedback you receive. Your employees want to know that you care. Really listening and paying attention to them shows that you care. You'll learn some practical ways to engage in more meaningful development discussions. And finally, flexibility is the new 'in' approach to the work environment, but it doesn't matter if your employees are afraid to take it or don't find purpose in what they're doing.

Session 1
Communications Case Study: Don't Ask, Don't Tell and You Will Fail
Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, Inc, a not-for-profit electric utility, began a transformation from a conservative, rarely changing organization to a flexible, continuous improvement organization in 2019. Faced with ever increasing regulation, member unrest, and the need to increase renewable energy options, their new CEO was tasked with leading this transformation. For this transformation to succeed, Tri-State developed multiple ways to solicit feedback, communicate and engage with employees. This session will focus on how Tri-State began to listen to employees, analyzing their feedback, and developing strategic action plans in response. Additionally, Tri-State engaged a consultant to help them identify areas for improvement, efficiencies and cost savings. This included conducting a culture survey, which highlighted the need for an organizational realignment that impacted the overall organizational structure, Tri-State leveraged internal teams to coordinate activities, manage associated change and communicate the strategic goals of the reorganization.
Learning Objectives: - Understand the pros/cons of different types of feedback solicitation mechanisms
- Key actions taken based on feedback that supported the transformation
- Recognize the limitations of surveys
- Highlight the lessons learned during the transformation process
