Session Description

Join us for our final session to put it all together! This panel of business leaders have successfully integrated equity into their talent strategies. They will share their experiences implementing job quality, skills based hiring and apprenticeships in their businesses. The networking lunch will allow HR Leaders to connect with community resource leaders ready to partner to help meet their most difficult recruiting needs.

This is the fourth session in a four-part series. You need not have attended previous sessions to benefit from this one.

Moderator

Stephanie Mufic

Stephanie Mufic, is the Business Innovation and Strategy Unit Manager with the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, where her team partners with the Workforce Center Business Service Representatives from across the state of Colorado. She also leads a unit that performs program administration and business engagement with employers throughout Colorado. The unit is responsible for serving employers and connecting them with talent through a focus on work-based learning, while providing innovative strategies to help ensure access to a diverse and skilled labor force. Stephanie worked 31 years in private business. With her unique blend of private sector experience and workforce development knowledge, Stephanie is committed to helping the public and using her business experience to create strategies that promote prosperity, innovation, and equal opportunities for everyone.

 

Panelists

Sam Bailey

Sam Bailey leads Amazon’s economic development efforts for the Mountain West region of the United States. In this role, Sam oversees economic development opportunities locating new investments and supporting existing operations across a seven-state territory, which includes Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming. At the world’s most customer obsessed company, Sam works at state, regional, county, and local levels to support Amazon’s job creation, capital investment, and public policy goals across multiple lines of businesses. 

Prior to joining Amazon, Sam served as:

  • Vice President of Economic Development at the Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation
  • President and CEO at the Jefferson County Economic Development Corporation
  • Senior Manager of Global Business Development at the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and International Trade for the State of Colorado.

Karla Nugent

As a founding partner of Weifield Group, Karla Nugent is responsible for the company’s business development, marketing, sales and preconstruction departments.  With Karla’s efforts, Weifield has grown to employ over 600 employees, has received Denver Post Top Workplaces award for ten years running, and is the first electrical contractor in the region to complete Net-Zero energy projects.
Karla successfully promotes Weifield Group while passionately advocating for a better construction workforce and industry. She currently serves on the State of Colorado Workforce Development Council, Colorado Business Roundtable Board of Directors (COBRT) – Executive Committee, the Hope House Colorado Board, and serves as the Avista Hospital Trustee Board Vice Chair and Weifield Foundation Chair.
In recent years, Karla presented to the Colorado General Assembly, advocating for improved training for the next generation of construction workers, which led to her becoming one of the founding members of SkillBuild Colorado and Skills2Compete Colorado. Karla has been honored with several notable industry, business and philanthropy awards, including Denver Business Journal’s ‘Outstanding Women in Business’ award, CREW Denver’s ‘Emerging Iconic Woman’ award, Denver Business Journal Partners in Philanthropy’s ‘Corporate Citizen of the Year’ award, Denver Institute for Faith & Work’s ‘Tree of Life’ award, and Denver Business Journal’s ‘C-Suites’ award. In all she does, Karla works tirelessly to provide her clients with construction leads while cultivating rewarding industry alliances and relationships.

Peter Hancock

After 18 years in recruiting and account management roles with national staffing firms, Peter founded Professional Employment Group of Colorado in 2019. In addition to running PEG operations, Peter is passionate about his roles on numerous non-profit and workforce development boards where he strives to make Denver a great place to work and do business. Growing up in Wyoming and Montana, Peter developed a love for skiing, biking, running, golf, and other outdoor activities, which now includes chasing after his kids. He graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with an emphasis in Finance.
Peter currently sits on the following boards:

· Rocky Mountain Tooling and Machine Association – Workforce Chair
· Tech Talent Denver – Board Member
· WorkLife Partnership – Past Chair
Peter has a strong passion for empowering team members in the community and removing barriers. Peter recently earned his DBE (Disadvantage Business Enterprise) certification for his company and is currently 8a pending.
